IPL 2021 to resume in UAE in September-October Letzcricket – Cricket News Articles From Around the Globe

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to resume the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 which was suspended earlier due to second wave of COVID-19 in UAE. Special General Meeting (SGM) of the Board of Control for Cricket in India decided to play the remaining matches in UAE in September-October.

BCCI press release said: “The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday announced to complete the remaining matches of VIVO Indian Premier League 2021 season in the United Arab Emirates (U.A.E) considering the monsoon season in India in the months of September-October this year.”

The most popular franchise based T20 tournament was suspended on May 4 after multiple cases of Covid-19 were detected among players and tea members midway through the tourmanent. There are still 31 matches left to be played in the tournament.

The SGM also deliberated on the tax liabilities for the BCCI if the T20 World Cup is staged in India. Insiders said that BCCI secretary Jay Shah informed the members that the tax liability might go past Rs 900 crore.

The tournament was shifted to UAE in last season due to COVID pandemic where the defending champions Mumbai Indians won the title for second consecutive time.
