The suspension on Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) by ICC is soon going to be terminated. In a meeting with the Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal today, the ICC representatives also agreed to form a committee to govern cricket activities here.
However, after lifting the ICC suspension, the relevance of CAN will cease to exist. The meeting was conducted in the presence of Minister for Youth and Sports Daljit Shripaili, National Sports Council Member Secretary Keshab Kumar Bista and former CAN CEO Bhawana Ghimire. “an advisory committee would be formed under the supervision of ICC which will review the current CAN charter and recommend changes wherever needed” said David Richardson, ICC Chief Executive Officer.
Richardson added “Nepal is an important member with huge potential. It is important for us to work out a roadmap for its reinstatement.Hopefully come 3 or 4 years’ time, they’ll be qualifying for our major events.” ICC on April 24 had suspended the membership of the Cricket Association of Nepal for engaging in the government interference and failing to conduct free and fair elections.
