Nepal U19 team defeated India U19 team by 19 runs in the ongoing ACC U19 Asia Cup on Sunday. Skipper Dipendra Singh Airee was the star for Nepali team with his allround performance as Nepal defended 185 runs to complete a historic win over a cricketing powerhouse India.
Nepal batted first after having lost the toss. Nepal didn’t start convincingly as Nepal lost 2 wickets for 28 runs. Jitendra Singh and skipper Dipendra Singh Airee added 49 runs for third wicket before Jitendra Singh was out for 95 balls 33. Dipendra played a captain’s knock as he scored 88 runs from 101 balls with 6 fours and 2 sixes. Aditya Thakarewas the pick of the bowlers for India as he finished with the figures of 2-33.
India in reply got off to a good start as openers Himanshu Rana andManjot Kalra added 65 runs for the first wicket. Himanshu was the top scorer for India as hescored 46 runs from 38 balls with 7 fours and a six. Manjot scored 35 runs while Abhishek Sharma contributed 27 runs. After playing a superb knock of 88 runs, skipper Dipendra Airee was star with the ball as well. Dipendra took 4 wickets giving away 39 runs from his 10 overs. Pawan Sarraf and Shahab Alam picked up 2 wickets while Sandeep Lamichhane and Kamal Singh Airee shared a wicket each for Nepal.
This was Nepal’s second match of the U19 Asia Cup after Nepal lost its first match to Bangladesh by 2 wickets in a rain affected match. Nepal will compete against Malaysia on 14th November in the last match of the group stage.
