Australia ended their losing streak as they beat India by 21 runs in the 4th ODI at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru on Thursday. Chasing a target of 336, India were restricted to 313/8 despite getting off to a good start with openers Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane.
Having won the toss and elected to bat first, Australia posted a mamooth total of 335 runs in the first innings. Openers David Warner and Aaron Finch added 231runs for the first wicket before Warner was dismissed to parttimer Kedar Jadhav. Warner got out for 124 while Finch was dismissed for 94 runs by Umesh Yadav. Australia lost 3 quick wickets as India looked to take control in the game. A good partnership between Travis Head (29) and Peter Handscomb (43) made sure that Australia posted 335 on the board. Umesh Yadav picked up 4 wickets but was too expensive as he gave away 71 runs from his 10 overs.Kedar Yadhav bowled well as he finished with the figures of 1-38 from hs 7 overs.
India in reply got off to a good start with both the openers Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane completing their respective half centuries. The openers added 106 runs before Rahane was caught by Aaron Finch off Kane Richardson on 53. Rohit was runout on 65 as a result of miscommunication between Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Skipper Virat Kohli was bowled to Nathan Coulter-Nile soon as India were reduced to 3-147. Hardik Pandya (41) and Kedar Jadhav(67) put on a good partnership but wasn’t enough to take India to victory. Kane Richardson was the pick of the bowlers for Australia as he finished with the figures of 3-58.
David Warner was named Man of the Match for his match winning knock of 124 runs.
