India win the series and take top spot in ODI ranking

India chased down the 294-run target in 47.5 overs to took an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match series and dislodge South Africa to top the ICC ODI rankings with 120 points. India defeated Australia by 5 wickets in the third match of the series to win tht series with still 2 matches to go.

Australia won the toss at Indore and elected to bat first against India. Australia got off to a good start with David Warner and Aaron Finch. David Warner scored 42 runs while Aaron Finch completed his century before getting out on 124 runs. Finch added 150+ runs for second wicket along with skipper Steve Smith (63). Australia were once 224/2 in 37,5 overs but lost the way to end up on293/6 from 50 overs. Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav picked up 2 wickets each while Hardik Pandya and Yuzvendra Chahal shared 2 wickets each.

India in reply started brilliantly with both openers Rohit Sharma(71) and Ajinkya Rahane (70) completing their individual half centuries.India faced a few anxious moments in their run chase after losing the set openers along with captain Virat Kohli (28) and Kedar Jadhav (2) but Pandya, who had played crucial role in India’s win in the series-opener in Chennai, ensured there were no more hiccups. Pandya found a good partner in Manish Pandey (36) as they went about their business calmly and shared a 78-run stand for the fifth wicket. Hardik Pandya scored78 runs off 72 balls with 5 fours and 4 sixes before getting out to Pat Cummins.
