Rohit Sharma blasted his third ODI double hundred to lead his team to a comprehensive 141 runs victory over Srilanka at Chandigarh on Wednesday. India was allout for just 112 runs in the first match of the series in Dharmasala to give Srilanka a 7 wicket victory.
Rohit Sharma is the only batsman in the history of ODI cricket to score a double century multiple number of times. Rohit had scored 209 runs against Australia in 2013 and scored 264 runs against Srilanka. The only other batsmen to score a double hundred are Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Chris Gayle and Martin Guptill.
India piled up 392 runs on the board after having put into bat by Srilanka in the first innings. Rohit scored 13 fours and 12 six in his 153 ball 208. Apart from Rohit’s 208, opener Shikhar Dhawan scored 68 while Shreyash Iyer batted brilliantly for his 88 runs.
Chasing a mamooth total of 393 runs to win, Srilanka never really got going. An unbeaten century by Angelo Mathews wasnot enough for the visiting team to go past the Indian total. Mathews was notout on 111 runs off 132 runs with 9 fours and 3 sixes. Asela Gunaratne was the second highest scorer for Srilanka with 34 runs. Yuzvendra Chahal was the pick of the bowlers for India as he finished with the figures of 3-60 from his10 overs.
